The local college is getting rid of some couches.  They are allowed to THROW them away but not GIVE them away because it's STATE property.  BUT the taxpayers fund the state, don't they?  So shouldn't the taxpayers have a right to claim them before they are thrown away?  Okay.  I can see there are liability issues... but how about a waiver to sign?  According to a friend of mine, Liability issues = our lawyers had a hissy fit.

nightmare...

Jul. 5th, 2014 | 03:42 pm

Ok...so I had a nightmare. A man came into my yard puffing a big cigar. He said he could do whatever he wanted and wouldn't leave. Then a bunch of people came into the yard and refused to leave. They were all defending the man....

Weird Dream

Oct. 27th, 2013 | 08:57 am
location: United States, Louisiana, Lake Charles
mood: confusedconfused

So I had this weird dream...

An army (holding torches) was chanting, "Who do we want?  William Wallace!"

They said each one of them had gone and complained about their pay to him.

Soemone got up and started singing "Present it as one!" to the tune of "Figure It Out"

From "Welcome to Pooh Corner" and the soldiers laughed at that...because they were

bringing William Wallace a "gift" of sorts ... The Trojan Horse?!  Yes, folks, The Trojan

Horse was being brought to William Wallace...It was being passed under some sort of arch

by a bunch of the soldiers, but the dream ended there...

Public Transportation in Lake Charles

Sep. 24th, 2013 | 05:50 pm

The Lake Charles bus system sucks balls. You always have to have exact change for your fare. They do NOT give change. So, if you don't have it you are SOL, even if you have larger bills. Minneapolis even has a card system, and unlimited rides were $50 a month when I was there. They had a special reader, but that wouldn't be necessary. Just a card that had dates on it...when to when this card is valid, and people could get either a new card or a sticker on the card per month. Maybe even take debit and credit cards...I know of FOUR different readers that work with cell phones. I think on the lowest plans that the city could afford cell phones for drivers. Heck, if the have to stay in the buses for each driver, and only charge at the station at night...just make sure you get long-lasting ones, or either battery banks for the phones. This would have an extra fee on it, but would likely be worth it for some. None of the providers I have seen charge over 5% per transaction, and that is a very high estimate, as I am allowing for inflation.
Many of the stops have no benches. Not everyone has a body that is able to stand for an hour while it waits for a bus! If you sit down, you often get covered in ants. Yes ants! They are in the GRASS, not on cement, and when they are on cement, ants have often invaded the cracks (you may get ants in your crack.) Very few of them have shelters. In an area that is prone to sudden cloudbursts, this is a rather important piece. I don't care if you make them out of PVC pipes and tarps, at least they would be there!
Also you stop service at 4:45 at the terminal? Really? People work longer than that, and if you want to get to an event at the Civic Center, you have to go HOURS early oftentimes, and then you don't have a way back if you can't afford
a taxi. You also don't run on the weekends. There are people who work weekends!
Your online map is barely readable, and it is the same one that is in the brochures. Your list of stops is fine, but it does not list approximate times for each stop. Rather, your sloppy schedule just says when you leave from/arrive at the terminal. Some bus systems even have online route planners. Heck even GOOGLE has a bus option and a city rep can submit a schedule, but your schedule doesn't have enough info for ANYONE to even try!
Friendly drivers are a good thing, but they are not the be-all-to-end all. You can afford to make a whole new transit station with little LED signs hanging from the eaves, but not make other improvements?
What is wrong with you?!

Research

Apr. 16th, 2013 | 12:34 pm

My research hasn't really gone anywhere yet, so I'm just going to keep looking, and plan?  What plan?  I'm not an architect, you know.
